The Hawaiʻi ʻAmakihi, this gorgeous member of the Hawaiian Honeycreepers is the most common native bird on the Big Island. Enjoying a bit of nectar from the fresh blossoms of the 'Ōhi'a Lehua tree in the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge.
The devoted workers and volunteers of Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge on the Big Island have made great strides in bringing back the forest that had been decimated. This tropical rainforest on the windward side of Mauna Kea is making a major comeback to sustain these amazing forest birds.
